James MacCleary is a staunch supporter of our campaign to STOP Eton building a 3,000-house new town at East Chiltington.

The Sussex Express ran his story on August 28 An extract is below:

I’ve written in the Sussex Express about the concerns residents raised with me during my summer tour about the proposed 3,000+ home Eton New Town development on the edge of the South Downs.

The proposal came up repeatedly in meetings in East Chiltington, Westmeston and Plumpton, with residents raising serious concerns about its impact on our countryside, water supply, sewage infrastructure, flooding and already stretched roads.

I want to be clear that I am not opposed to building homes. We desperately need more housing, but development must be in the right place and come with the infrastructure needed to support it.

With our area already facing water shortages, sewage pollution and flooding, building thousands of additional homes without the necessary investment would be irresponsible.

Residents and campaigners have already successfully fought to keep the proposal out of the local plan. We need to remain vigilant and make sure this development does not become a reality.
