Thank you - and what’s next for Don’t Urbanise the Downs.

Thank you, thank you to all our amazing supporters. There was a HUGE response to Lewes District Council's recent Issues & Options consultation and we sincerely hope it makes an impact and Eton's scheme (and others like it) are kept out of the new Local Plan.

Check out this video from Don't Urbanise the Downs campaign founder Marc Munier on what's happened so far – and what's happening next.

This summer has been very busy as we encouraged people from all over Sussex and beyond to take part in Lewes District Council's consultation for the new Local Plan. The Council received more than 2,500 responses - this is really incredible and the vast majority of those responses are from our supporters. We have made it very clear that we do NOT want a new town built in the Low Weald. The Council will now be looking at the responses and launch a new Consultation next Spring.

Amazing campaign stats!
We now have 5,000 campaign members and nearly 2,000 facebook followers. More than half our supporters come from outside the local area; this is NOT a NIMBY issue - we ALL want to protect what's left of our beautiful countryside. We have put up 600 signs around the local area and handed out 10,000 leaflets. We held five Drop In Days with hundreds of attendants at each one and hundreds more of you have written to your local MP and councillors.

Going national
We are now taking the campaign up to national level and will be lobbying Michael Gove, the new Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government. It's not just the Eton scheme that we are fighting - the whole of the South East is under attack from greedy developers. Yes - we need housing, but we need affordable homes in the right places!

We'll be letting you all know soon how best to keep up the pressure and make sure Gove understands that we will not give in. We will fight to protect our beautiful countryside and make our voices heard.
